The mission of "Los Estudiantes de Alabama sin Fronteras" is to promote student involvement within the Tuscaloosa Latino community in order to break down cultural and language barriers. We work toward achieving this mission through service and participation in community events.
What we do
We volunteer with ESL classes in Tuscaloosa, and have even worked to establish an ESL program at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, and a weekly homework help event at the Tuscaloosa Public Library. As we grow as an organization, we hope to expand our areas of service. Our members enjoy meeting new people and finding new opportunities to practice language skills. Our weekly Charlas con Café, a conversation hour held at the local Starbucks, brings together students to practice Spanish. We are always seeking community partners within the University of Alabama, the Tuscaloosa area and the greater state of Alabama to increase our positive impact.
What is ESL?
ESL classes, or English as a Second Language, are classes designed to teach English to non-native speakers. Learning English can be very important to open up new career opportunities and helps to improve the quality of life for non-native English speakers in the United States.
